National Survey of Assisted Living Residents:  Who is the Customer?

This national study is the first to provide an in-depth profile of the demographic and lifestyle characteristics - beyond age, gender and marital status - of residents in a broad cross-section of assisted living communities, including modern, purpose-built residences. More than 1,000 residents were surveyed from 178 communities. Results reveal what factors motivate residents to move; the types of settings they move from; how far they move from their former to their new residences; what mechanism residents use to pay for assisted living; and the characteristics of the assisted living communities. The results provide a solid foundation for understanding the nature of assisted living residents, and prospective residents, on a national and regional basis. Owners, operators, developers and financiers of these residences will find the information invaluable.

More than 250 charts and graphs; research conducted for NIC by the ProMatura Group and co-sponsored by the Assisted Living Federation of America; 1998.
